Little Wild Roots
At Little Wild Roots, our approach to learning is rooted in honoring each child’s strengths while nurturing curiosity, confidence, and a genuine love of learning. Designed for children ages 3.5–5, this early childhood nature-based program offers a gentle alternative or enrichment to traditional preschool through hands-on, play-based experiences. Set on a working hobby farm, children learn through exploration, choring, and caring for animals to help build early life skills, responsibility, and connection to the natural world in a warm, supportive environment.
At Little Wild Roots, children gain a strong foundation for lifelong learning through play, connection, and meaningful experiences. Our program supports cognitive growth while nurturing creativity, problem-solving, literacy, nature, and self-help skills through hands-on lessons led by high-quality educators. In a warm, supportive social setting, nurturing teachers guide children as they practice sharing, communicating, and building friendships in age-appropriate ways that help them grow socially with confidence.
Little Wild Roots also promotes resilience, responsibility, and a growing love for the natural world through authentic experiences like animal care, exploration, and active learning. With abundant fine and large motor activities outdoors, children increase physical activity, and build independence during short times away from home.
Little Wild Roots is a school-year, early childhood enrichment program for children ages 3.5–5, running from September to mid-December and mid-January through April for a total of 28 weeks. Children need to be 3 by March 1st and independent in the bathroom by the start of classes. Children attend two days per week, choosing either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, with class times available from 9:15–11:15 a.m. or 1:15–3:15 p.m. to best fit family schedules.

When we first began this journey, our mission was simple- to connect children deeply to the natural world. Over time, we’ve seen how this connection opens hearts, sparks wonder, and leads to meaningful conversations about the world around us. As followers of Christ, we recognize that this sense of awe and appreciation for nature naturally connects back to our Creator.
Beginning next year (2026-2027) , we’ll be allowing ourselves to speak openly about our faith when conversations organically lead there, especially when it comes to where the world comes from, who made it, and how the beauties of nature are connected to creation.
We also want to be equally clear that Project Wild Rooted remains open and welcoming to all families. We do not plan on formalizing faith-based instruction but rather children may occasionally encounter casual references much like they would in everyday life. We will not require a statement of faith to participate, and will not have any structured religious instruction.
We believe deeply that loving as Christ loved means welcoming everyone with honesty, grace, and respect. Our hope is to continue fostering a community marked by curiosity, kindness, connection to the natural world, and genuine care for one another. And while our curriculum will remain firmly rooted in hands-on, experiential learning, we will be intentional about allowing opportunities to affirm creation in the years ahead. -
Little Wild Roots will be at our Greene Acres Campus located in Center City, MN.
